My wife and I wanted to try something new so we decided to head down FM359 towards Fulsher to Ray's grill. Well before we entered Fulsher's small square we noticed ALL the cars parked up at Dekkers. We noticed the large American and Texas flags flying high along with smoke coming from a beautiful outdoor Mexican fire pit… WOW this is where I want to go! So we pulled in, this was our time here. Upon entering we were greeted warmly with lots of activity going on around the bar and a nice open kitchen. Stuff is happin around here! First order of business, we ordered a bottle of Monterey J. Lohr Pinot noir red wine and an appetizer – very good! We noticed the chef speaking with everyone and thought that was pretty special. He came over to us and we struck up a pleasant conversation about many things near and dear to him about “Texas” which was certainly outside of the normal restaurant talk. He had a very personal demeanor about him… We took his recommendation as well as his offerings of a few things that we had not thought of (which may have not been on the menu). I had the grilled pork chop with grilled shrimp and my wife had the rib eye,… it was awesome! We finished it off with half a chocolate cake and bread pudding, again OMG! IMO, Dekkers offers a simple “Texas” cuisine with a full bar, nice wine selection and a great atmosphere. We will definitely be going back. Go at sunset you will like it! We did.

I've been to Dekkers twice. The food is tasty and I have received good attentive service for the most part, although refills on tea could have been better attended once the meal arrived. I think for the product, the prices are esculated. I shared a burger and dessert with my daughter. Her husband had a chicken fried steak and a dessert. We each had a tea..........and our bill was $56..........I think that rather extravagant considering it was pretty much two meals, with an extra glass of tea. The burger was dry and the onion was and outside limp section...and I had to request mayo............ I just don't think a hamburger and a chicken friend steak and a dessert is worth 56 dollars. I 'll be heading up the road to Roper's in Simonton...great burgers and great chicken friend steak...and I won't have to build my own burger or share.
