When the news van rolls up to your business, you know you’re going to get some recognition. In Karen O’Neil’s case, the media attention and recogognition is well deserved. Fulshear’s own “Sweet Tooth Shoppe” is being recognized by the Texas Downtown Association as a finalist for the “President’s Award” in the “Best Downtown Business” category.
Cynthia Cisneros, well known reporter for Channel 13, dropped by the “Sweet Tooth Shoppe” to see just what all the talk was about. Her report made the news at 4:30 on Wednesday, September 1st. The report featured an overview of the store as well as interviews with store owner Karen O’Neil and Fulshear Economic Development Director, Cheryl Stalinsky.
The Sweet Tooth Shoppe is facing stiff competition state-wide from three other downtown businesses. The other finalists include:
- Beth Marie’s – Denton
- M.L. Leddy’s – San Angelo
- Iron Horse Pub – Wichita Falls
Being named a finalist in the Texas Downtown Association President’s Award is an important accomplishment. Business are nominated from across the entire State of Texas.
Cheryl Stalinsky was responsible for nominating Karen and the Sweet Tooth Shoppe for the award. She nominated the business for their community spirit and involvement in many local events, such as the “Fulshear Friday Nights”, “Tuesday Tunes”, Independence Day Celebration and other community events. Also, always ready to pitch in, the Sweet Tooth Shoppe has been a central hub of local fund raising activity for the Girl Scouts, Addison Marshall, and many others.
Cheryl and Karen will travel to El Paso for the November 11th award ceremony at which time the winner will be announced.
Karen is pretty humble about being nominated the award, saying that her purpose in starting the Sweet Tooth Shoppe was to help children build good childhood memories. Fulshear is fortunate to have such active and involved businesses in our downtown area. Our hats are off to The Sweet Tooth Shoppe for being a community leader and setting such a high standard for community spirit.
