Cane Island Update

Rapid growth is continuing westward, not just in the Fulshear area, but also along the I-10 corridor. It won’t be long before Sealy is linked to Houston! The latest mega development is Cane Island, which is the highly anticipated 1,000-acre Master Planned community in Katy proper. The City’s first Master Planned community will have a large range of single family and custom homes. At build-out, the community will have 2,000 homes.

Construction on the first phase of Cane Island began in October with builders focusing on the neighborhood’s featured amenities. Originally, plans showed the community to be built on 830-acres; however, an additional 160 acres of land were purchased from nearby landowners which allowed developers to build more homes and amenities on the now nearly 1,000-acre plot.

Cane Island’s spectacular 4-acre amenity village will feature an outdoor amphitheater, a family pool with a close-by splash pad and a separate adult pool. The outdoor amenities will feature two large tree houses with decks that overlook the amphitheater. The community’s ambassador, a golden retriever named Hub, will make a third tree house his home. Hub will act as the community’s pet and have ambassador-like duties such as greeting people. Cane Island Residents will be able to visit Hub’s tree house home by special invitation only.

Other community features will include a two-story fitness center that houses a gym, yoga studio, multipurpose room and a commercial Kitchen. The amenity center will offer a conservatory for weddings and other parties/functions and will be highlighted with a living wall covered in seasonal flowers. The same flowers will also be seen at the community’s entrance, which will be planted in living arches spanning over the road.

Construction of the community’s first 13 model homes began in November, and plans for seven distinct neighborhoods have been laid with lots ranging from 50 to 100 feet wide. Homes will range in price from $200,000 and go upwards of the millions. Builders include Coventry Homes, Toll Brothers, Ryland Homes, Shea Homes, David Weekley Homes, Perry Homes and Trendmaker Homes.
